How to Reset Your M-PESA PIN If Forgotten

Option 1: Using the M-PESA App
  • Open the M-PESA or MySafaricom App.
  • Tap ‘Forgot PIN?’ on the login screen.
  • Enter your Safaricom mobile number.
  • You’ll receive a One-Time Password (OTP) via SMS.
  • Enter the OTP in the app.
  • Set your new M-PESA PIN and confirm it.

Your PIN is now reset — you can start using M-PESA again.

Option 2: Using the USSD Code

  • Dial *334# on your Safaricom line.
  • Select My Account > M-PESA PIN > Reset PIN.
  • Enter your National ID/Passport number.
  • You’ll receive a temporary PIN via SMS.
  • Use the temporary PIN to log in, then change to a new PIN of your choice.

Option 3: Via Safaricom Customer Care

  • Call 100 (for prepaid) or 200 (for postpaid).
  • Request M-PESA PIN reset.
  • Provide identity verification (e.g. ID number, recent transactions).
  • You’ll get a temporary PIN via SMS.
  • Use it to log in and set a new PIN.

Tips for Your New PIN

  • Use a 4-digit PIN that's easy to remember but hard to guess.
  • Avoid using birthdays or repetitive numbers (e.g. 1111).
