Kenyan Students Triumph at Huawei ICT Global Final 2025

Kenyan university students have achieved remarkable success at the Huawei ICT Competition Global Final 2025, held in Shenzhen, China from May 23 to 26. Competing against over 160 teams from 49 countries, Kenyan participants secured top honors, showcasing the nation's growing prowess in information and communication technology (ICT).

Outstanding Achievements

Kenya fielded six teams in the global finals, the highest representation from Sub-Saharan Africa. Notably, two Kenyan teams clinched First Prizes in the Network Track, while other teams earned Second and Third Prizes in the Computing and Cloud Tracks. Additionally, a Kenyan team received the Women in Tech Award, highlighting the country's commitment to gender inclusivity in technology.

Empowering Future Innovators

The success of Kenyan students is attributed to robust collaborations between academia and industry. Institutions like Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) have been instrumental in preparing students for global competitions. For instance, JKUAT student Rukia Mwari Mohammed won the Network Track and plans to mentor other girls through the university's "She Tech Africa" platform.

Similarly, Machakos University celebrated the achievements of five students who excelled in national competitions and advanced to the regional finals. The university's commitment to nurturing ICT talent is evident in its support for students and recognition of outstanding instructors.

The Kenyan government has played a pivotal role in promoting ICT education. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba emphasized the importance of such competitions in equipping students with practical skills and fostering innovation.
